Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care focuses on restoring and maintaining the normal functions of the body. This is accomplished with a number of therapeutic procedures including chiropractic adjustive techniques, soft tissue techniques, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitative procedures, nutritional support and lifestyle recommendations. In general, chiropractic health care focuses on preventative, natural and conservative therapies rather then the use of prescription medications or surgery. In certain cases these procedures may be indicated and the patient is referred to an appropriate health care practitioner.
The Chiropractic Subluxation
An
abnormal neurological pattern can be classified as a chiropractic
subluxation. A "subluxated" nervous system implies that it is
functioning less than 100%. Often, a subluxation will present with
abnormal spinal function. These dysfunctional changes may result in
neurological and blood flow impairment and symptoms such as pain,
altered sensation and limited movement. Chiropractors perform
adjustments of the spine in order to access the nervous system and to
restore the effects created by the subluxation.
Subluxations are
caused by stress. There are three forms of stress -
chemical/environmental (what we eat, drink, breathe, and
electromagnetics), physical (employment, inactivity, accidents, birth
trauma [for baby and mother]) and emotional (childhood and recent). The
effects of stress can accumulate over time with repetition or can be
triggered by a single event.
The Adjustment
An adjustment is a controlled, specific and skilled chiropractic therapeutic procedure aimed at restoring joint lesions, often referred to as subluxations. Chiropractors possess extensive training to assess and correct subluxations. Adjustive therapies are safe, effective, and cost effective procedures aimed to restore and maintain optimal joint health. Your Doctor of Chiropractic will determine the best procedures for your unique condition or problem.
